Whether you’re taking your knit or crochet project to go, or have a dedicated craft space in your home, there are a few essential items that are helpful to have within arm’s reach. You may have your own version of “the essentials,” but today’s post might inspire you to add a thing or two to your own project bag.
You can never have too many stitch markers! These small but useful notions have a way of disappearing despite your best efforts - there are so many small places where they can hide! From utilitarian to decorative, there’s a stitch marker to suit any preference. Removable stitch markers are particularly handy for marking dropped stitches, increases or decreases, or the beginning of your crochet round.
Darning needles can be used to weave in yarn ends or mend your projects when they start to show signs of wear and tear. If you keep a few different sizes of needles on hand, you’ll be ready for anything!
A good pair of scissors can’t be beat, and there are many compact options which save on space but still make the cut!
Perfect Notion Case
Stitch markers, darning needles and more can be securely stored in our Perfect Notion Case, which features locking compartments in your choice of 4 great colors, Plus, each case is small enough to stash in a project bag, bin, or drawer!
Keep a needle and hook sizing gauge nearby to identify mystery needles and hooks (or double-check that their size is accurate). Our super-accurate Knitting Gauge has printed rulers so that you can measure inches and centimeters, making it perfect for checking your gauge swatches. Don’t let the name fool you - crocheters will find this tool invaluable, too!
Many fibers (wool in particular) can dry out your hands as you work, so keeping a good moisturizer nearby is always a good idea. Look for something which absorbs quickly into your skin so that you don’t get your needles and yarn sticky.
There’s nothing more annoying than snagging your yarn or project on a rough nail, and edges that aren’t noticeably rough in everyday life can often surprise you! Keep a nail file handy to smooth out any rough edges or snags.
Row Counting Device
For more complex patterns, a gadget to keep track of your rows (or rounds) can be a real lifesaver, and there are some pretty interesting options available for today’s crafter!
You may think that a Wraps Per Inch (WPI) Gauge is just for handspinners, but our customers who knit and crochet love it, too! A surprising number of commercially made yarns are incorrectly labeled, so our handy tool is a simple way to measure yarn and accurately identify its proper weight.
